Carlos J. Gomea, M.D., beloved husband, father. grandfather and respected physician, died on February 24 in Bayonne, N.J., following a brief battle with cancer. He was 83. Dr. Gomez was born August 14,1932, to Eligio Gomez and Antonia Sequeira in Santa Teresa, Nicaragua, the youngest of 7 children. He married Irene Ziminski on September 4, 1965, and together they raised three sons, of whom they are very proud. Dr. and Mrs. Gomez celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2015. Dr. Gomez studied medicine at the National University of Nicaragua and was an established physician there before coming to the U.S. to continue his training in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. After settling in Bayonne, he practiced at Bayonne Medical Center as well as the University Hospital of Newark where he also served as a clinical instructor. Dr. Gomez practiced medicine for over 50 years and was treasured by his patients and colleagues. Among his greatest joys were his family, providing care for those in need, and his beloved New York Mets, of whom he was a diehard fan. Dr. Gomez will be remembered as a humble, faithful servant of God, a provider for his family and a dear friend. He is survived by His wife Irene; three children, Joseph[Laurie] Gomez, M.D., Stephen Gomez and Michael[Sarah] Gomez, Ed.D.;four grandchildren, Isabella, Zoe, Tessa and his namesake Peter Carlos Gomez. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 28 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at S Fryczynski and son Funeral Home[32 East 22nd St., Bayonne, N.J.] The funeral mass will be on Monday, February 29 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church[39 East 22nd St., Bayonne N.J.] In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Peter's Prep[144 Grand Street, Jersey City, 07302] or Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School[5218 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA. 19141
