Edward W. Lempa, 85, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
He was born and raised in Bayonne where he resided for most of his life. Edward served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the USS Philadelphia and in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was employed by KTTV of Calfornia in 1948. In 1956 he returned to N.J. and was hired by ABC News. He worked on the Good Morning America Show and World News Tonight. He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1965 for the doctumentary, The Saga of Western Man. He retired from ABC TV IN 1999 after a 51 year career.
He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary (Nee: Kozacko) Lempa and his brothers; Valentine, Stanley, Joseph, Anthony, Peter and Henry.
Edward is survived by his sister Theresa Oscilowski and her husband Robert. Also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing on Monday (today) from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the S. Fryczynski & Son Funeral Home, Bayonne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Bayonne. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hosp., P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
