Obituary

Edward R. Rutkowski “Tex” passed away on Monday. January 10, 2022 at the Bayonne Medical Center.
He was born in Weehawken on August 17, 1944 to Anne (Nee: Briamonte) and the late Edward Rutkowski. He was raised in Jersey City and resided in Bayonne for most of his life. He served his country proudly in the United States Army and was a proud member of the 532nd MP Company. Edward was a graduate of Snyder High School and St. Peter’s University.
Edward was a Jersey City Police Officer for 32 years. He was the Community Relations Officer and the first DARE Officer in Jersey City. He was awarded Police Officer of the year in 1989-90, he retired in 2005.
Edward was very involved in charity work, he was awarded top donation solicitor for the Special Olympics Torch Run 1998 and Rotary Award for outstanding work in the community. He was man of the year for Hudson Milestones for his commitment to the betterment of the handicapped, he ran an annual fishing outing for the organization for over 25 years.
He was a dedicated worker for the Cancer Care of Bayonne, he also worked with Jenkensen’s of Point Pleasant Beach to create a day at the boardwalk for special needs adults. He was an avid model train lover and brought his Lionel Trains for the enjoyment the clients at the Day Habilition sites of Hudson Milestones. He received the volunteer of the year from Hudson Milestones in 2020.
His passion after retirement was his garden which he devoted to growing things uncommon to New Jersey , like palm trees and tropical flowers and fraser fir christmas trees.
Beloved husband of Arlene (Nee: Feldscher) Rutkowski. Loving father of Craig Rutkowski. Dear brother to Diane Mittica and Brian Rutkowski and his wife Deborah. Cherished uncle of Anthony (JCPD) and Gloriann (SAPD) and the late Dominic.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. from the Parish of St. John Paul II at our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Bayonne. Entombment with Military Honors
