Elizabeth M. “Betty” Bukowski (nee Stoop) passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Maryland after celebrating her 90th birthday a week ago. Born in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, Betty resided in Bayonne, New Jersey for over 60 years. Along with her husband, Betty worked in the garment and footwear industries during World War II making uniforms, shoes and canteens. She was then the owner and operator of Betty’s Deli located on 15th Street and Broadway, where she was a hometown favorite for her delicious homemade salads and fish cakes. Betty spent countless enjoyable times with family and good friends in vacation homes, first in Connecticut and then in Pennsylvania. For the past 11 years she has lived in Maryland; the last 8 years with her son, daughter-in-law, daughter-in-law’s mother and her cherished dog Max.
Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband Al Bukowski, Sr., her parents Michael and Anela Stoop (nee Ferrick), her sisters Pearl Ann Stoop (Sister Mary Althea), Irene Dwulet, Alvena Dwulet, Helen Benvenuto, her brothers Donald, Henry and Flore Stoop and her stepson Richard Bukowski, Sr. Betty is survived by her loving son Al Bukowski, Jr. and his wife Sherry, her brother Leonard Stoop and his wife Clair, daughter-in-law Margaret Bukowski, grandchildren Gail Malaguti and her husband Steve and Richard Bukowski Jr. and his wife Denise, four great-grandchildren, Alex and Anthony Malaguti and Richard III and Alyssa Bukowski and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 14 , 2014 from 9:00 am to 10:15 am at S. Fryczynski & Son Funeral Home, 32-34 East 22nd Street, Bayonne, New Jersey 07002, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Henry’s Roman Catholic Church, 645 Avenue C, Bayonne, New Jersey 07002 at 10:45 am. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road, N. Arlington, New Jersey 07032.
