Frank J. Kozak, 92, of Bayonne, passed away peacefully in Highland Park Illinois, on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 surrounded by his family.  He joins his beloved late wife of 50 years, Emily Kozak in eternal life. He was born in Bayonne and resided there most of his life.

Mr. Kozak was a pillar of the Bayonne business community for over 60 years, having started the iconic Kozak Brothers paint store in April of 1945.  The first Kozak Bros. store was located on 43rd and Broadway, where it stayed for 15 years.  In the 1960's Mr. Kozak expanded the store and moved to 44th and Broadway, where his old building still stands today, now as an Ace Hardware.  Known for its bustling atmosphere, Mr. Kozak took great pride in his store and enjoyed giving personal attention to his many customers and friends. After selling Kozak Bros. in 1991, he opened FJK Arts and Crafts next to his original paint store, operating that business for 12 more years until he retired in 2003 at the age of 84.

Throughout his life, Mr. Kozak served the community of Bayonne in many ways.  He was an active participant in the Uptown Merchants Association and was once named their Merchant of the Year.  Mr. Kozak was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, and a life member of the Mt. Carmel Lyceum of Bayonne.

Surviving is his daughter, Joyce Brennan; his grandchildren, Tim Brennan and Francine Byers; and his great grandchildren Charlie, Emily, Harry and James, all of whom knew and loved him.
