Janice (Wisniewski Tomsky) Anderson
Janice was born at home on February 18, 1941 to Stephen and Helen Wisniewski in Bayonne, New Jersey. She passed away on June 22, 2024 with her daughter and granddaughter holding her hands.
Janice grew up as a second generation Polish American and was very proud of her heritage. She attended Mt. Carmel Catholic School. When her father passed away when she was very young, Janice dropped out of school to work to help her mother with the children and household expenses. Even without graduating, Janice worked hard, and eventually became a bookkeeper.
Janice married Albert Tomsky and they welcomed their two children, Stephen and Lisa. Later she remarried Edward Anderson, and together they had many adventures. They roadtripped throughout the United States and took trips to the Caribbean and Europe.
She spent most of her life in Bayonne. Where she had a very large circle of friends and a very close relationship with her large family, especially her sisters, cousins and sisters-in-laws, who she adored. Summer evenings would find her sitting on the porch on 19th Street talking and laughing with her aunts Hattie, Annie, Stella, Kitty, cousin Barbara and good friend Diane, waiting for Mr. Softee to come by with some ice cream. She relished her countless trips to Atlantic City with her best friend, Sandy. They were also known as “Starsky and Hutch” by the kids in the neighborhood.
Her children remember fondly, the whole family going to watch her brother George playing in softball tournaments all over New Jersey. Fall would bring apple picking and lots of baked apples and applesauce and pies from Delicious Orchards for Thanksgiving. Janice’s annual Christmas Eve parties were famous and brought together her wide circle of friends and relatives. She was independent, honest and unconventional, but as a young single mother, she dedicated herself to her children. She wore a Blessed Mother pendant, and often spoke of how the Blessed Mother answered her prayers by giving her her children and was extremely proud of the people they came to be.
Janice loved games of every kind, from childhood until her passing. In Bayonne Saturday night game night was a constant where neighbors and friends and relatives would play Acey Ducey Pinnacle, Yahtzee and many more late into the night. And there were the epic scrabble games with Andrea.
She and Eddie loved camping at Camp Taylor with their good friends, Flo and Carlo, Joannie and Ray. They also enjoyed traveling to Florida with her nephew, Keith and grandson, Craig. Janice was godmother to Terri Ann, Peggy and Keith.
She retired to Ft. Lauderdale Florida with Eddie until his passing several years ago, and she moved to Colorado to live with her son and daughter-in-law and grandchildren. She delighted people with her “Jersey” accent and phrases and always entertained her new friends in Colorado with her good conversation. She found a lot of happiness with her two dogs: a giant german sheppard, Grizzley and a tiny rat terrier Zig. During her time in Colorado she developed a special bond with her great granddaughter, Mylah. Mylah would perch on “Old Gramdma’s” chair and they would play games together, or Mylah would give her a funny hairdo or delight Janice with her made up songs about the day.
Janice is survived by her children, Stephen (Cora), Lisa, Eric (Alice); Eddie (Janet); grandchildren Jessica, Steven, Craig, Samantha, Sage and Jack; and 6 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Kenny (Barbara), George (Margaret); sister-in-law, Delores; brother-in-law Gene (Elaine) many cousins and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Stephen and Helen, her stepfather Charlie, husband, Eddie; brothers Steve and Father Albert; sisters Francis and Mary; and grandson, Jacob.
