John P. Durak, 88, passed away with his loving family by his side on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Meadowlands Hospital. Born in Bayonne, John was a lifelong Bayonne resident. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII. He performed duties of a rifleman in combat for Company K of the 104 Infantry 26th Division. John participated in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal and was also awarded the Hudson County Distinguished Military Service Medal. John was a salesman in the graphic arts and book binding business. He was retired from the Mueller Martini Company of Long Island N.Y. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 371, He was a Lector and member of the Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and years ago was active with the Boy Scouts Troop 19 and was the past President of the Fathers Club at Hudson Catholic High School. He was also past President of the Metropolitan Binders Association of New York City. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Veronica Durak and his siblings; Louis, Walter, Joseph, Edward, Henry, Frances Cerbone, Bertha Motkowski, Anna Kita and his sister-in-law Barbara Quinlan. Beloved husband of 55 years to Clara ( Nee: Usarzewicz) Durak. Loving father of Paul Durak and his wife Marisol, Steven Durak and his wife Eve and Thomas Durak and his wife Frances. Dear grandfather of Amanda, Leah, Phoebe, Anna and Gwenyth. Devoted brother of Sr. Dianne Marie C.S.S.F. and brother-in-law of Christine Durak, Louis & Julie Usarzewicz, MIchael & Rita Usarzewicz and Michael Quinlan, . Also survived by many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Viewing on Monday, March 2, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the S. Fryczynski & Son Funeral Home, Bayonne. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday March 3, 2015 at 10 a.m. from the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Bayonne. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
