John Torres, 94, died peacefully on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Jersey City Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. John was born October 13, 1929 at the Women's Hospital in NYC where he grew up. He lived in Bayonne, NJ from the time he married the love of his life until his death. John served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1950 as a Navy Electronics Technician aboard the USS Kearsarge Aircraft Carrier, during the Korean Occupation. Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy, he began working at Emerson Electronics. Later, John had a food truck and became a Chef for the Drop Zone Restaurant, in Roselle Park, NJ. Prior to retiring, he owned and operated the 12th Street Deli on Avenue A in Bayonne. To keep busy after retirement, he worked as a pallbearer and doorman for several local funeral homes in Bayonne and Jersey City.
John was predeceased in death by his mother, Anna Testa, and his father, Manuel Torres, and in 2004 by his wife of 50 years, Jean (née Fiuza). John is survived by his only sister Goldie Colonna. John's greatest pride was in his family, who succeed him in life, consisting of six children, eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. John's children are John Torres, Jr. (Nancy), Raymond Torres (Barbara), Camille Squillante (Jimmy), Ann Marie Zaleski (John), Jean DeCicco (Ron), and David Torres. His grandchildren are Jamie Soprano (Kenny), Thomas Squillante (Kim), Raymond Torres, Jr. (Nicole), Alexandria Torres, Dana Zaleski, Tamra Zaleski, Jade Parsons, and Carly Parsons. Great grandchildren include Tyler Soprano, Jessalyn Figueroa (Melissa), Hunter Squillante, Ava Squillante, and Gabriella Torres.
Relatives are invited to call, Thursday, November 16, 2023 (today), between 3pm and 8pm at Fryczynski Funeral Home, Bayonne, NJ. Funeral will be on November 17, 2023 at 10am at Fryczynski Funeral Home, with Bagpipes to send him off to the Rosehill Cemetery and Crematory where a military service will be held by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
