Maureen Lucile Calandra [Nee McCarthy] passed away on December 17, 2016 at her residence in Cornelius, North Carolina after a long and courageous fight against cancer. She was born on November 13, 1943 in Brooklyn , New York to James and Catherine McCarthy. Maureen grew up in Maspeth, Queens, New York and graduated from Bishop McDonnell Memorial HIGH school in Brooklyn, New York in 1961 Maureen married Jack Calandra in 1963 in Queens , New York and thus began a storybook love affair that lasted 37 years. She became a mom for the first time in 1964 and did an amazing job raising 4 rambunctious boys in Montvale, New Jersey. During those years there were countless soccer, baseball and basketball games where Maureen found the time to shuttle back and forth to ensure she would support her sons. Maureen enjoyed Broadway musicals, reading, watching movies and spending time with her family. Maureen is survived by her sister Cathy Ippolito; her sons James, Joseph, Anthony and Scott; her daughters Carolynn,Kelly, Moira and Alicia; grand children Jessica, James, Caitlyn,Jack,Joseph, Kathryn Rose, Megan,Jake. Nicholas and Lyla. Maureen was pre deceased in death by her parents James and Catherine [Nee Burns ]; her mother in law Alberta; her husband Jack; and her brother James. Maureen now continues her journey by reuniting with her life partner and only true love...her husband Jack Calandra. A visitation will be held at the S Fryczynski and Son Funeral Home 32-34 East 22nd st. Bayonne N.J. 07002 from 4;00 p.m. till 8;00p.p.m. on December 21,2016. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on December 22,2016 at 11:00 a.m.at St. John Paul II Parish @ Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Bayonne N.J.
