After a brave fight, on October 9th, 2016 Raymond " Ray " J.Sokolowski passed away at the age of 69 years old, surrounded by his loving family. He will be remembered for having the most warm , inviting spirit, contagious smile, and for dedicating his life to making his loved ones happy
Ray had an unbreakable bond with his wife of 38 years, Debby. They shared a strong love for music and enjoyed countless concerts together through the years.
He was a devoted, proud, and supportive father to Susan and Christine. He beamed with pride when telling friends about Susan's brave service in the Army. He wore his Army hat as much as he could and would jump at the opportunity to brag about his daughter serving two tours in Iraq. He also shared a deep connection with his youngest daughter, Chrissy, who inherited his good looks, personality, and work ethic. He was the most loving and supportive father anyone could dream of. He was also a very proud grandfather, known as Pop Pop to Livie and Ella , who he loved to make laugh.
He was a beloved brother ' Butch " to Cheryl Micewicz and Arlene Howlett and deeply loved his big and little sis. Ray was known as " Uncle Butch " to his cherished nieces and nephews Jamie Lyn, Jimmy, Scott, Jennifer, Jason and Jeremy. He was a treasured brother in law to Mark Micewicz, Linda& Richie Andrews, and Marie Giandomenico. He was also a loving uncle to Kieth, Richie, Jenny, Kathy, Candy and Danielle and a great uncle to James. Michael, Mia, Gregory, Christopher, Raigan, Angelina, Richie, and Ryder.
Ray was a passionate singer/ song writer who played in bands for fun in his early year and continued to write heartfelt songs and enjoyed playing his guitar in his free time. He made friends everywhere he went and could start a conversation with anyone. Ray's loving and generous personality was inspiring and contagious . He would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need and instilled that strong sense of kindness in his wife and daughters.
Ray was known for his tenacious work ethic. He loved to do everything he could to provide a happy and memorable life for his family: usually working two jobs for the majority of his life and never complained. After retiring with over 30 years of service as a Graphic Arts Consultant with AT&T, he worked as a toll collector with the NJ Turnpike Authority for 10 years. He also worked for FJC and Summit Security where he held his last job as a security guard.
He worked hard but loved even harder, reminding everyone who was lucky enough to cross his path that there are good. genuine people in this world that they are willing to go out of their way for others. He built countless, meaningful, relationships and will sorely be missed.
Ray wanted everyone to remember that 'Life is a Gift, that's why they call it the Present.
