Walter "Wally" Urbanowicz, 90, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at his home in Bayonne with his loving family by his side.
Wally was born in Bayonne and was a lifelong resident. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the Bayonne Police Department for 28 years retiring in 1983.
Wally (aka) "The Polish Falcon", was a one of a kind character who touched the hearts of everyone he met. A true gentleman in every sense of the word, generous with a kind word, a warm smile and a hearty genuine chuckle.
He was a very active parishioner at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Bayonne. He was a former Parish Trustee, Usher, Holy Name Society Member, Seniors Club Member, Men's Lyceum Club Member and he belonged to a group known as the "Church Mice" who helped with many church related renovations. He was also a member of the Local PBA of Bayonne.
He was predeceased by his brother Stanley Urbanowicz Jr.
Wally is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years Clara (nee:Gula) Urbanowicz. Loving father of Rita (Joseph) Howley and Don (Mary Ellen) Urbanowicz. Dear grandfather of John (Karen) Conway, Stephanie (John) Gillespie, Kristin Howley and Dan, Ellen and David Urbanowicz. Cherished great-grandfather of Brian, Kevin, Jack, Katie, Kelly and Hannah.
Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing on Saturday (today) from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 2;00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the S. Fryczynski & Son Funeral Home, Bayonne. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, Bayonne. Entombment to follow at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers donations to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital would be appreciated.
