William "Bill" Leonard

William “Bill” Leonard entered eternal rest on Thursday, March 13, 2014 surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness.

Bill was born on October 18, 1946 in Bayonne to the late Lee and Florence (Lasinski) Leonard. He then spent the entirety of his sixty- seven years at his family home in Bayonne.  He worked in the liquor industry for many years including Allied Beverage and Bridgeview Liquors until his retirement in 2007.

An avid New York Giants fan, Bill will always be remembered for his infections sense of humor, loving nature, loud voice and for having a larger then life personality. He is fondly remembered for the way in which he could steal the spotlight for telling one of his funny stories and how he always loved to have a good time.

Bill’s greatest joy came later in life with the birth of his grandsons. “Gramps” was never too busy to take time out to share snacks, give hugs, and play outside. He felt his greatest success was creating another football fan in his grandson Lucas, and they enjoyed watching games together every Sunday.

Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his loving wife of 41 years, Barbara (nee: Malkowski), his daughter Denise and son- in- law James Diver, Jr. and his two adored grandsons Lucas William and Liam James Diver.

Bill is also survived by his dear sister Carol Lee Hoerter (nee: Leonard) of Garnerville, NY and was a fond brother-in- law to Lee and Dian Malkowski of Texas, and Richard and Sharon Malkowski of Union, NJ.  Also saddened by Bill’s loss are numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, Godchildren, cousins, and friends.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the S. Fryczynski & Son Funeral Home, Bayonne. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. from the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Bayonne. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington.
